Waratah
Waratah is one of Australia’s leading cross-cultural performance groups. A remarkable fusion of jazz, world music and contemporary Australian music, Waratah’s members include: Satsuki Odamura on Koto, Sandy Evans on saxophone, and Tony Lewis’s percussion.

Satsuki Odamura
Satsuki is an award winning master of the Koto who has pioneered the introduction of teaching and performing on this ancient Japanese instrument. Amongst Satsuki’s foremost achievements are her collaborations and musical performances with musicians from other genres and styles, such as jazz and world music; performing with critical success in countries across the globe; and winning The Australian Music Award for World Music Instrumentalist of the year in 2000. Sandy Evans
Sandy Evans is recognised as one of the leading saxophone players and composers in contemporary jazz in Australia. She has received many awards, including the Australian Jazz Artist of the Year (2003), She has played with and composed for many of the most important groups in Australian jazz, lead her own groups Women And Children First, the Sandy Evans Trio, and Clarion Fracture Zone, and has composed and directed Testimony, a ninety minute music theatre work about the life of Charlie Parker, for ABC Audio Arts.

Tony Lewis
Percussionist and composer Tony Lewis specialises in cross-cultural music forms, and music for dance. He has composed major dance & theatre, and was Musical Director of the Asian segment of the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. Tony is committed to the creation of new Australian music that is based in diverse cultural origins, and to active collaboration between music, dance, theatre, and other disciplines of the performing arts.

Heval
Heval, Music Oz’s 2006 ‘World Music category’ Award winning band, is an ensemble bringing together intricate rhythms, spontaneity and evocative melodies to produce a unique blend of world music. Heval’s music reflects the musicians diverse Kurdish, Polish, Indonesian, Singaporean and Macedonian backgrounds, bringing together players whose love of creating exciting new music is matched by their explorations of other musical traditions. Heval’s members include: Peter Mulas- guitars, Jonathan Nanlohy- drums, Clinton Harn- drums, and Louie Stojevski- clarinet and saxophones.
