In early November, under the full moon, thousands of peoples of many cultures gathered with many Thai Australians on the banks of the Parramatta River to set their offerings adrift in the twilight.
Loy Krathong is an ancient and magical ceremony which celebrates the River with fine food, fashion, music, traditional dance and the releasing of thousands of krathongs.
In 2009 the entertainment was co-produced with Musica Viva, whose Café Carnivale branch presented a diverse music program including Kurdish band Heval, and the haunting Waratah with Sandy Evans, Tony Lewis and Satsuki Odamura.
The event drew a large and happy crowd to Parramatta who relaxed on a beautiful night with Thai cuisine and traditional music from both Thailand and around the world. The event was jointed hosted with the Thai-Australia Association, while the Thai Royal Consul General was an honoured guest.
