When starting the project I had in the back of my mind that I wanted to avoid making static objects. I was more interested in working with the people of Parramatta. I wanted to observe the connections between a river and the people. Documenting bush regeneration volunteers working along the catchments exemplifies these ideas. The people have a sense of place and commitment to shared resources. Yet the physical nature of a river and the many needs of people mean that there are complex and contrary forces that one is always dealing with. The artwork will be as much about social interactions as making material objects.
