riverbeats
Riverbeats, Parramatta's unique signature event is an innovative and inspirational celebration of water and our relationship to it..
Riverbeats 2009 has concluded after three Saturdays of perfect weather.
Riverbeats Live began with fantastic crowds up on Church St for the “Eats B4 Riverbeats” festival with special guests Simon Marnie and Fast Eddy Halmagyi. The festival also showcased many local chefs and specialty dishes from 23 participating Parra restaurants; it was a huge success that perhaps we could do more often.
Then as darkness fell we gathered by the river for the light and sound spectacular which this year starred Synergy, Decoder Ring, Dale Barlow, Indian master of the tabla Suman-ji and the wild African beats of Doudoumba.
It was a great night.
The following Saturday was Loy Krathong, and a large family crowd came down by the river to enjoy Thai food, float their Krathong, and relax with the elegant Thai dancers, and sounds from Musica Viva including Sandy Evans and Waratah, and the Baltic rhythm-masters Heval.
On lucky Friday the 13th, the Riverside Theatre was packed to the rafters with young people gathered for the Water Project. Over 700 students watched Karl prove the theory that we only see what we’re looking for, and Adam Spencer prove that water recycling means you could drink your urine. If you wanted to…
And on Saturday Riverbeats concluded with the Carp Fish Out. A record haul was noted of 3 carp, 4 perch, a bass and 2 eels. We hope to keep fine tuning our technique for catching those cunning carp; problem is, every fisherman gives different advice!
Riverbeats is a huge effort for many departments and units working in co-operation towards an event of excellence and originality.
On behalf of the Major Events team, I want to thank all those you contributed and especially acknowledge the support and assistance we had from Riverside Theatres, Marketing and Communications, the Web team, Front Counter and Call Centre staff, the City Care team, Exec Support, Recreation services, Andrew and Michelle from Arts and Culture, the IT gurus and Grahame Copeman, along with our excellent interns and volunteers from UWS.
